Laurel Akira Parmet is a filmmaker based in New York.
Her latest short KIRA BURNING premiered at SXSW in 2018, screened at MoMA as part of the Future of Film is Female series, and won the Jury Prize for Best Student Short at Palm Springs International ShortsFest. Her previous short SPRING premiered at SXSW in 2017, and won Jury Prizes at Dallas Film Festival and Provincetown, and has gone on to play at Outfest, Palm Springs Shortsfest, Raindance, Créteil, and dozens more festivals.
Her previous shorts have screened at numerous festivals around the world, and her music videos have premiered on Pitchfork, MTV Buzzworthy, Spin, Fader and the A.V. Club. In 2014 her work was shortlisted for the Young Director Awards at Cannes. She attended NYU's Graduate Film Directing Program, where she received the Hollywood Foreign Press Scholarship.
She is currently working on her first feature, The Starling Girl.
